Fuzzy Love Story

Gentoo Lynux Adams was born on April 1st 2005 into a hoarders home. I rescued him the very moment he was able to leave his mother. I would soon learn he rescued me and would continue to do so in so many ways over many years to come.

I had been wanting a tuxedo cat for a long time and had visited the shelters and vets offices in my search. Sadly I just didn’t have a connection with any of the babies I had seen and held until Gentoo. One day my Dad had called me and said he thinks he found the perrrfect baby for me. He said “Amy he has cute little white socks”! Something in my heart just clicked. I had not seen this baby yet but somehow I just knew he would be the one. I went through the work week anxiously waiting for the weekend when I could see this little tuxedo baby. I researched names, and did a lot of day dreaming. So many Tuxedo cats seemed to be named “Domino”, Tux, or Oreo. I wanted Gentoo to have his own identity per se.

My husband is in the I.T field and loves Penguins so that seemed to be where my focus was in my name search for a baby I still hadn’t seen. To me tuxedo cats often look like penguins. I had a few names in mind by the time the weekend rolled around and Todd and I could make the drive out to Arlington to see this baby. The moment I saw this fuzzy baby I was in love! My dad had picked him up and was snuggling him when we walked in. Todd had a stuffed animal of a penguin that sat next to his computer monitor. Tux was the name of the penguin and was connected to the Lynux computer system. I had learned in my research that the founder of the Lynux system had seen some Gentoo Penguins and that is where the logo for the company was born.

Gentoo was named after the Gentoo Penguins and his middle name ( i know that sounds funny but like a parent of a human child I like to have a middle name to yell to let him know Im really serious) Lynux for Todd’s love of the I.T career he had carefully built and the Lynux system he prefers. The picture you see of Gentoo being held by the scruff of his neck was part of the temperament test we were doing. Gentoo was a squishy sweet little lover form the beginning.

Gentoo has been glued to my hip from the day I brought him home. I love every little part of this sweet penguin. I did not know until Gentoo how much you can truly love a fur baby or just how much they could be bonded to you and fill your heart with such complete joy. By the time Gentoo was two we had learned he will do anything to make you happy including parroting one to two syllable words he hears people speak. When we took him in to be fixed we got a call from our veterinarian who informed us that Gentoo was ready to be picked up and was saying “Mama”. We told the veterinarian that he had been saying that for a while, however we thought maybe we were just hearing what we wanted to hear. She laughed and said no he in fact is saying “Mama” and we think he is adorable.  So yeah Gentoo is a Mama’s boy.

Over the next few years Gentoo would teach us a lot. We learned he has a pretty large vocabulary ( he can say Mama, Oh No is what he calls his daddy, Hello, No, well, Wa Wa for water) and he loves to talk and is very vocal. Gentoo loves soft blankets he can make biscuits on, he must have ice cubes in his water bowl, he loves to thief strips of paper and Q-tips, he doesn’t like to be held but will trust me for a little while to hold him. Gentoo is afraid of heights and kids and doesn’t like his head touched unless you are his Mama or daddy during a cuddle session.

Quite the personality Gentoo has! He is a bit dramatic and yes even a bit overweight, but penguins have to have some extra fluff to them for their “Egg Pouch” to keep their unhatched egg warm haha. This squishy Penguin teddy bear has loved me so unconditionally and helped me get through so much loss I just cannot imagine my life without him. What a blessing it has been to have this sweet guy for the past 11 years. Every night he heard me to bed to cuddle me to sleep and  every morning he wakes me with a gentle rub to my cheek with his little sock paws and says Mama! My heart just melts for this boy.

As I write this Gentoo is under my desk a sleep in his bed. He doesn’t like to be way from me and I treasure having him as my shadow.

I hope you all are having a good week. Thank you for stopping by. Drop me a comment about your fur baby too. If you would like to see or hear more of Gentoo he has a Facebook page at http://www.Facebook.com/gentoopenguincat

Winter Skin Must Haves

Hello there on this gloomy day here in Dallas. With the winter season approaching I thought I would share my winter skin must haves. These products are good to just pamper yourself with no matter the season but I as specially need them in the fall and winter months.  I love a nice hot bath at the end of a stressful day with the Dr Teal’s bath salts. My favorite is the Comfort and Calm with Chamomile. The smell is so relaxing and will make you feel like you’ve just had a very luxurious pampering bath.  Just before I get out of the bath I love to rub the Tree Hut Shea Sugar scrub all over and rinse off. I don’t really have a favorite scent in this product because I seem to like them all. For the result you get out of this drugstore product it will surely leave you wanting more. This is a scrub without being too harsh but still getting the exfoliating job done.

After I am all dried off I put on the Righteous Butter by Soap and Glory all over. This gives my skin the softest feel with a nice scent. The body butter is very thick and will definitely keep any dry skin at bay this winter. Ulta recently started carrying this line so I am happy to now have this product available to me any time I want it.

There you have it my 3 absolut winter must haves for the season. Pick them up at your local store and pamper yourself! You will be glad you did!

Thank You for stopping by, and keep warm this coming winter.

E-Juice What I’m Vaping This Month

I have been vaping (using an E-Cig) for about four years now. If a company makes it chances are I’ve tried it. I started off using 18MLG but now I’m down to 8MLG.

I have been using the ELeaf iStick 50W with a KangerTech Sub’ohm tank since May of this year. I really like the mod and the vapor cloud is big but not too obtrusive. It feels nice and the flavor is amazing.

Today I went to Vaporia in Irving Texas. I will leave a link below to their website and their Yelp listing below for you. The staff was very nice and helpful. They explained their product lines clearly and gave detailed descriptions of their flavors.

Todd and I decided to pick out a few flavors since we really like the taste of them in the store. Today they have a special going on buy 2 get one free. I chose one from their Pirate Juice line called Davy Jones Locker. According to their website they describe the flavor as “Layer upon decadent layer o’ this juice sends yer taste buds on a s journey e’ll swear ye can feel th’ warm, freshly baked apple pie ‘n crunchy grahamcracker crust topped wit’ a smooth layer o’ whipped cream; ye will find yourself seekin’ Davy Jones fer a chance at another drop.” it will be a nice flavor leading into the Autumn season.  Todd Chose Berry Dew which is a triple Berry with a hint of Honeydew. This flavor is nice and smooth and taste very refreshing for these hot August days. Berry Dew is apart of their house juice. For our Free Flavor we chose another in house blend called Skittles. The name says it all. If you have eaten those delicious rainbow colored candies then you know exactly how this juice taste. Its sure to wake the kid in you and maybe even a sweet tooth. Lastly I was given a flavor called Strawberry Cheesecake which is another of their in house flavors for review. This mouth watering dessert tastes taste very creamy and you can even taste the strawberries too.

You are sure to love their flavors and the staff too. Abdul took care of us. He is a very sweet knowledgeable man. Stop by and say hi and pick up a few flavors too. You will be happy that you did.

Starting with a Happy Wreath

Hello and welcome to my first post here on my blog. Today I wanted to share with you a Rag Wreath I made to bring some cheer to my Mother In Law Helen’s room. Helen is 86 years old and struggling with some health issues, one being Alzheimers Dementia.

Over the weekend Todd and I enjoyed some brunch together and then went to Joanns. I picked up an 18 inch wire wreath form and one yard each of the five colors I had chosen. You really only need about four yards for this size wreath but I wanted to make sure.

The best way to do this wreath is by using a natural fabric that you can tear into strips that are one inch wide and eight inches long. However I must do things the hard way and used a fabric that does not tear. I purchased some pinking scissors to give the fabric edges some decoration. I had to cut all the strips by hand, so take my advice use a fabric you can tear.

I got the idea for this wreath on Pintrest. I had never heard of a rag wreath before but it looked easy and I was excited to give it a try. The wreath was very easy to make and I have plans to makes other wreaths of different colors and styles. I will share the ones I make in the future with you.

Above you can see how I tied the square knots that formed the fluffy wreath. I tied a knot on the first two wires, then on the middle two and lastly on the inner two wires. Unlike some wreaths this one actually looks pretty from the back as well.

There is no way for me to put into words the reaction on Mom’s face or the bright smile her roommate had when they saw their wreath for the first time. I thought I was going to cry hearing these two ladies talk about their new wreath and how happy it made them. What a wonderful feeling.

I truly believe that making those around you smile makes your own heart smile as well.

I hope you all are having a good productive week. Check back soon for more postings.
